Sea-Dragon

I've been waiting all these nineteen years for you,
for a love I wouldn't let myself believe in,
for a love who's everything and more, like you,
and I can't believe that I am leavin'.

Course, I'm coming back to you when Autumn's gone,
I'll be comin' back if you'll be waitin',
But I'm trav'ling far and wide, and the wait is long,
there's not much worse than the pain of separation.

I read my coffee dregs tonight, my dear:
in the bottom of my cup was a sea-dragon.
Sea-dragons are rare and they love true, I hear,
but the path of one's life it keeps zig-zaggin'.

So forgive me if I appear to stray awhile,
I'll come back at the end of each adventure
and I'll fall into your arms if I can stay awhile--
did you get all the loving that I sent you?
